Profile Builder for SketchUp Function Description
This extension contains a HUGE number of functions, including the following –
- Profiles
- Assemblies
- Automatic Assembly Creation Tool
- Smart Path Selection Tool
- Hole Tool
- Live Path Editing Tool
- Trim Tools
- and more!
Profiles are objects that get extruded along paths, like steel I-Beams, pipes, base and crown molding profiles, and more. One of the great things about the profiles in Profile Builder is that they can be edited and changed after they’re created without you having to go back and re-extrude all the profiles. In addition, they can also be added to assemblies.
Assemblies are collections of profiles and repeating components, allowing you to create more complex objects along paths. They’re almost like if you were to add the ability to repeat components along a path to the follow me tool in SketchUp. These are really good for things like stair rails, fences, framed walls, and much much more.
In Profile Builder 3, the ability was added for Profile Builder 3 to automatically create assemblies based on an assembly you’ve already created, meaning that instead of having to assemble everything manually, you just model an assembly and let the extension assemble it for re-use!

The smart path selection tool allows you to quickly select a path within SketchUp. Instead of having to click over and over again trying to pick a complex path, this tool automatically tries to find the path for you!

The hole tool allows you to punch holes in just about any geometry you could want in SketchUp. It works both on raw and grouped/nested geometry.

The live path editing tool allows you to change and adjust your paths within SketchUp, then automatically re-generate your object along the path that you just changed. Rather than having to re-extrude an object manually, Profile Builder will automatically re-create your object along your changed path!

Profile Builder contains a complete suite of tools for trimming, cutting, merging, and extending profiles. These allow you to adjust the junctions between different objects for smooth geometry.
