Creating Detailed Building Foundations with Medeek Foundations – SketchUp Extension of the Week #35

This week’s extension can be used to generate concrete foundation drawings in SketchUp!

Plugin Name: Medeek Foundations

Plugin Developer: Nathaniel Wilkerson

How Much does it cost? $15

Where do you get it?

You can download the trial version of the extension from the SketchUp or SketchUcation extension stores.

Tool Functions

This extension contains a suite of tools designed to help you create structural foundation models in SketchUp.
It’s still in development, but the tools it does contain are very useful. At the moment, the tools that are active are the stemwall foundation tool, the slab on grade, and the slab tools.

This is extension is very versatile in that not only will it allow you to draw things like stem walls, grade beams, and slabs, but it will also generate anchor bolts, reinforcing, and foundation insulation. You can use it for something as simple as drawing a stemwall around the base of your building, all the way up to detailed construction drawings. It can generate these walls along a path, in a rectangle, or all the way around the perimeter of a face. You can then section these walls and take them into layout.

The slab on grade tool will allow you to create a slab with a structural grade beam. Finally, the slabs tool will allow you to create a slab, complete with reinforcing.

The other nice thing about this extension is that you can set it to create all the different geometry on different layers, so that you can turn them on and off quickly.
The developer is still working on this extension, along with several others, including his truss extension (which we may cover next week), but even for what’s included, this extension is well worth the $15 investment.

As always, leave a comment below and let me know if you’re using this tool and how.
Finally, please consider supporting me on Patreon. As you know, The SketchUp Essentials is a side project for me, and a lot of these tools and extensions cost money. By supporting me on Patreon, you help me be able to purchase licenses for new softwares to keep bringing you new plugin reviews and other SketchUp content. Even a dollar a month helps.

In either case, thanks very much for watching, and I’ll catch you in the next video.
