Extension Description – Extrude Tools
Extrude tools is a SketchUp extension from TIG designed to add additional extrusion tools to SketchUp. This tool contains tools for extruding based on edges, rails, and more!

EXTRUDE TOOLS TUTORIALS (EP4) – Extrude Edges by Edges for SketchUp
Extrude Edges by Edges is a tool contained in TIG’s extrusion tools for SketchUp extension. It lets you create a mesh using two edges – one is treated as a profile, while the other is treated as a rail, or the path an object is extruded along.
EXTRUDE TOOLS TUTORIALS (EP3) – Extrude Edges by Loft for SketchUp
In this video, learn to use the tool extrude edges by loft within the SketchUp extension Extrude Tools to create a face using multiple edges! This can be helpful for creating complex structures and much more!
EASY GLASS ASSEMBLIES with Extrude Edges by Rails to Lattice
In this video (part 2 of the extrude tools for SketchUp tutorial series), we check out a tool contained in TIG’s extrude tools that allows you to create faces from edges, then create extruded glass assemblies from those faces! This can be really valuable for creating complex glass structures and more!
SketchUp Extrude Tools Tutorial – Extrude Edges by Rails
In today’s video, learn to use another function of Extrude tools for SketchUp by TIG – Extrude Edges by Rails allows you to extrude an edge into a shape along a path that you dictate, letting you create amazing objects in your SketchUp models.
EXTRUDE TOOLS TUTORIAL – Extrude by Vector to Object
In this tutorial, learn to use Extrude by Vector to object, a function contained within TIG’s extrude tools extension, to extrude objects in SketchUp until they intersect with other objects and faces!
EDGES TO FACES in SketchUp – Extrude Tools Extrude Edges by Vector
In this video, learn to use the extension Extrude Tools and the tool Extrude Edges by Vector to extrude your edges into faces in Sketchup!
Extrude Tools for SketchUp Extension Functions
- Extrude Edges by Rails – This allows you to take an edge and use other edges, or rails, to extrude it. You can use a 4th profile (a “Melding Profile”) to direct the final direction of the extrusion
- Extrude Edges by Loft is very similar to the face creation by curviloft – you can select a series of lines, then generate a face with them. You can adjust the number of segments, and if the faces that are generated are quads or not.
- Extrude Edges by Rails to Lattice – This works in a similar fashion to Extrude Edges by Rails, but then allows you to create a lattice from the resulting faces
- Extrude edges by edges will take 2 groups of grouped edges and use them to generate a face by extruding 1 along the other.
- Extrude edges by vector allows you to take an edge and extrude it in any direction you want.
- Extrude edges by vector to object allows you to extrude multiple items and intersect them with a face.
- Extrude edges by Lathe will allow you to rotate an edge in a circle, much like extruding a face around a circular shape with the follow me tool .
- Extrude edges by face will take a flat face that you’ve drawn and extrude it along any edge you select. Theoretically works on multiple paths at once.
- Extrude edges by faces will merge two faces along a rail, similar to curviloft’s loft along path function
- Extrude edges by rails by face will extrude a flat face along a series of rails created by curves – confused yet?
- Extrude by offset – create face from a line based on a defined thickness
About Justin Geis
Hi, I'm Justin Geis, and I'm the founder of The SketchUp Essentials. I started using SketchUp as part of my work as a general contractor in 2008. I quickly realized the power of the software and started using it for personal projects. I started The SketchUp Essentials as a place to share easy to follow SketchUp tutorials and tips to help everyone harness the power of 3D Modeling in their lives. When not working with SketchUp, I enjoy playing soccer and spending time with my wife and our two dogs.
